RSS (an acronym for "Rich Site
Summary" and later coined Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based
format for distribution and aggregating Web content (such as news,
headlines and website updates). Using RSS, web content providers
like Asian-Recipes can easily create and disseminate feeds of data
that include, for example, latest update, how-to build successful
web site, internet business models to copy. Other sites using RSS to
deliver to a wider audience include Yahoo News, CNET News and others.
For
example,
Yahoo News (RSS)
headlines can be viewed like bookmarks in Firefox or viewed like
email in Thunderbird.
Many web sites generate RSS feeds such as the
BBC News (RSS),
Yahoo News (RSS),
and your favorite Blog. RSS comes in many flavors, including RSS
0.9, RSS 1.0, RSS 2.0, and Atom.
News Aggregator, also known as news readers,
will download and display RSS feeds for you. A number of free and
commercial News Aggregators are available for download. Popular news
readers include AmphetaDesk, NetNewsWire, Radio Uderland.
Another way many people use RSS feeds is by
incorporating content into weblogs, or "blogs". Blogs are webpages
comprised of usually short, frequently updated items and web links.
Blogging as a publishing tool is used for many purposes like
traditional journalism, personal journals, group discussions around
a topic, and many other combinations in-between.
