Ham in Winter Melon Pieces Recipe

Ingredients:

winter melon
Chinese ham (lean)
scallion
sherry (wine)
sugar
chicken bones
dried black mushrooms
salt
MSG

 

Directions:

  1. Peel winter melon, cut into 14 pieces, each about 2 5/8 inches long, 1 3/8 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick. Slice each piece lengthwise to form a pocket for stuffing the ham pieces.

  2. Steam ham with scallion, 1 tbsp sherry and 2 tbsp sugar, then cut into pieces the same size as winter melon.

Methods:

  1. Stuff ham in winter melon, then in steamer, add 2 chicken bones, 3 dried black mushrooms, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp MSG, 1/3 tsp sherry and 6 cup water to the steamer, then steam 1 hour.

  2. Remove winter melon and arrange in a soup bowl, add mushroom. Pour soup (without chicken bones) in the soup bowl and serve.
