Chinese Ham with Honey Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

1 1/3 lb
1/3 lb

1 tsp
1/2 tbsp
1 tsp
1 tbsp

Chinese ham
lotus seeds
loaf white, bread
sugar
rock sugar
sweet fermented rice
lard
osmanthus jam
tomato ketchup
cornstarch
water

Directions:

  1. Boil ham and cut into pieces the same size as the toast.

  2. Boil lotus seeds.

  3. Remove crust, cut bread into 12-14 pieces 3 1/8" x 1 3/4" x 1/8". Cut each piece lengthwise almost in half. arrange in the steamer and steam until soft.

Methods:

  1. Arrange ham pieces in a deep dish in 3 rows, add 2 tbsp sugar first, lotus seeds second, 2 tbsp sugar again, then place the bowl into the steamer, steam for 30 minutes, remove. Discard the remaining sauce.

  2. Add 1/4 lb rock sugar, 2 tbsp sweet fermented rice, 1 1/2 tbsp lard to the ham bowl. Steam again for 1 1/2 hour. Remove and invert on serving plate.

  3. Boil 1/2 cup water with 1 tsp osmanthus jam, 1/2 tbsp tomato ketchup and 2 tbsp sugar, add 1 tsp cornstarch paste. Pour over ham and serve.

  4. Serve with steamed bread which will be used to warp the ham.
