Curried Fish (Ikan Kari) Recipe

Ingredients:

1 / about 650 g
1 tsp
2 tbsp
2 cloves
2 tsp

1 tbsp
1 tsp
1 tbsp
 

whole fish, preferably porgy or sea bass
salt
vegetable oil
garlic, chopped
curry powder or 1 tsp cumin, 1/2 tsp turmeric, 1/2 tsp coriander
pinch of ginger
coconut, desiccated or freshly grated
sambal ulek
tamarind juice

Method:

  1. Rub fish all over with salt.

  2. Sauté onion light in oil, subsequently adding chopped garlic and curry powder. Stir continuously to prevent the curry from burning.

  3. Add coconut and sambal ulek. Fry for about 5 minutes and add 1 cup of water. Bring liquid to a boil.

  4. Add fish. Cover and simmer 15 to 20 minutes. Finally, add tamarind juice just before serving.
