Beef Spareribs in Tangy Sauce with Chestnuts
(Kal Bee Jim)

Ingredients

750 g/11/2 lb

 

Sauce:
4 tbsp
450 ml
2 tsp
2 tsp
1 tsp
1 tbsp
1tsp
100 g/4 oz
100 g/4 oz

Beef spareribs trimmed of fat and cut into pieces 5 cm/2 inches wide





soya sauce
water
sesame seed
sesame seed oil
crushed garlic
sugar
freshly ground black pepper
cooked chestnuts, finely chopped
bamboo shoot

 

Method:

  1. Parboil the beef for 5 minutes, then drain and set aside.

  2. To make the sauce: Put all the ingredients in a pan and stir well. Bring to the boil, then add the beef and bring back to the boil. Lower the heat and simmer gently for 30 minutes or until the beef is tender. Serve hot.
