Koreans eat a hot meal three times a day, and each one is accompanied by rice, barley or millet. All the dishes are placed on the table at the same time. As in China, many of the ingredients are carefully chopped into small pieces and cooked quickly in a wok. Korean pickled vegetables are one specialty that should not be missed. Rice or one of the other cereals are combined with red beans, leeks and other vegetables, as well as meat and fish. Popular seasonings include dried mushrooms, sesame seeds, chilies, ginger, garlic and an aromatic chili paste. Sweet foods are more popular in Korea than in most other Asian countries, and they are not only served as desserts.
