Simplified Beef Rendang Recipe

This beef rendang recipe is much simpler and with fewer ingredients than the other recipe.

Ingredients:

750 g /1 1/2 lb

3/4 tbsp
1/2 tbsp

Seasoning:

1 tbsp
1/2 tsp
1/2 thumb size
4 cloves
1 1/2 tbsp
1 stalk

 

beef, rump or fillet, cut into cubes
onion, sliced
coconut, add in 285 ml/ 10 oz water, squeeze for milk, discard pulp or 500 evaporated milk
sugar
salt

 

coriander (ketumbar) powder
cumin (jintan puteh) powder
pieces ginger, pounded or minced or 1/2 tsp. ginger powder
garlic, pounded or minced
chili powder, add a little water
lemon grass (serai), bruised or 1/2 lemon peel

 

Method:

  1. Place the coconut milk, 1 tbsp sugar and 1/2 tsp salt in a pot. Add the seasoning, mix well, and then add the meat and onions. Bring to boil over a high fire, and then simmer until the meat is cook and tender. (Add more water if necessary). Stir occasionally to prevent the spices from settling at the bottom of the pot. Serve.
