There are four broad categories of food in Singapore: home-style food, stall food, restaurant food and banquet food. Although there tends to be a certain amount of overlapping, each category is different. Restaurant and banquet food (especially Chinese) tends to be more expensive than the home variety; it involves more complex techniques and sometimes requires equipment not available in the average kitchen. Stall food covers a wide range of dishes, some easy, some complex; most eating stalls concentrate on only one type of food, such as satay, murtabak (Indian savory pancakes), fried noodles and substantial noodle soups. Home cooking, while no less delicious than restaurant food, uses less expensive ingredients and simpler techniques. Most of the recipes in this site fall into the category of home cooking and stall food; some relatively easy restaurant dishes, now so popular in Singapore that they are prepared at home, are also included.Collection of Singaporean recipes:
